What's the difference? Serious Q, is there any major distinction other than the badge?

But can you afford to insure and maintain it?

I was actively searching for an NSX/Viper/Elise SC. I love those cars, but the lady friend liked the elise the most. You won't go wrong with an NSX. They are excellent cars. PS I'm 23. You can achieve that goal.

A word of advice, my young, ambitious friend: focus on furthering your education more than earning bread for a 911. Those brakes/tires/oil changes/everything ain't cheap.

In America, yes. A Honda would have to be imported, and it's not old enough to do that yet.

Ambition is good but you need to seriously think this over, sure you could probably make enough to buy the car but to insure it as a 21 year old and do the maintenance? Get a good education/job and defer your dreams to a point where they make more sense. /somebody who finally lives in the real world. Yes, it sucks.

Oh I certainly know.. When I say 911 I mean 996.
I only work weekends right now. The place I work also offers a scholarship program where they'll give you some money for school as long as you work there part time in the summer and during other long breaks.
School is definitely my priority.

I saw one for sale a good while back in Canada. Asking $12,000, according to the listing on Craigslist. Didn't get a good feeling about that, but it would be amazing if it were real.

Ooh, a 996.
Then you can add rear main seal and intermediate shaft seal X-D

When I was your age I was planning to get a C5 corvette after college.
Then reality set in and I bought a German AWD hatchback. But hey, I'm also a homeowner so I can't complain.

Haha I'm well aware.
The turbos actually tend to be less problematic. Nice excuse to step up to one..

Where does a 20 year old get that kind of money, anyway? Even if you have a good job, you should still save up for when you finish school and move out. I assume you're still in school and at least partially dependent on you parents, or else you wouldn't be trying to buy an NSX. Or maybe you're fully dependent and they were going to pay for it. If that's the case, then forget what I said and roll with that as long as you can, haha.

As much as we love cars, owning a home should probably be a larger priority. Even a small one, just so you're not tossing money down the drain. Fun cars come at all price points, and the more expensive ones can wait until your finances are in order.

A long time ago I found a wrecked one for $6,000. Clean title, only cosmetic damage, and not a single mechanical issue. So unbelievably tempting, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Intermediate shaft bearing - not seal. And the 996 is old enough and Porsche approved oil is expensive enough that I'm pretty sure nearly every rear main seal has been replaced by now.

Actually, the NSX is a very practical sports car as far as maintenance and upkeep goes. At least, compared to his other dream of owning a 996, despite how awesome they are.
